Doug McDermott finished his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team in 2023.

McDermott aided Brandywine in winning its fourth-straight PSUAC championship as the team earned a record of 17-6-1 during his first season on the bench. The Lions won another conference title and captured the team's second national championship in 2021, while finishing the year with a 19-3-3 record. Brandywine went undefeated during the regular season in 2022 for the first time in 33 years and matched the 2021 team with a program-record 19 victories.
