Brandywine Tops Cairn On Senior Day

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's tennis team ended its spring season on a high note Monday afternoon, defeating Cairn University 8-1 on Senior Day.

Brandywine swept three doubles matches and claimed five-of-six singles matches to earn its first victory of the spring.

Victor Ficarra (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy), the team's lone senior, and Zephyr Bombeke (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills) earned an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles, while Tanuj Gaikwad (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Nishanth Kopri (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) teamed to win their top-flight singles match 8-3.

Ficarra and Gaikwad each picked up a second victory on the afternoon during the singles round. Gaikwad eased to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, while Ficarra earned a 7-6, 6-0 triumph during his No. 3 singles bout.

Cameron Flanagan (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester) added a straight-set win at No. 4 by scores of 6-2, 6-2.

Brandywine finished its abbreviated spring season with a record of 1-2.
