Brandywine Posts Five Top-Five Finishes; Places Fifth At USCAA Invitational

DELHI, N.Y. -- Penn State Brandywine track & field runners recorded five top-five showings as the men's squad closed out its first year of competition by placing sixth at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Invitational on Saturday.

The Lions compiled a total of 41 points in nine events, finishing in the top half of the 10-team field during its inaugural season. SUNY Delhi, the host of the national invitational, took home the team championship.

A pair of Brandywine runners took home silver medal honors as Ezenwa Osuagwu (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) placed second at the 100-meter sprint and Raheem Naughty (Philadelphia, Pa./Boys Latin) was the second competitor to cross the finish line at 400 meters. Osuagwu's time of 11.58 was just 0.02 seconds behind the 100-meter champion, while Naughty posted a time of 51.20, under one second off the time of champion Kaleb Coston of Cleary University.

Osuagwu also finished sixth in the 200-meter race (24.00), two places behind teammate Nate Sobers (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East). Sobers ran to a time of 23.87 for his second fourth-place showing of the day. He also claimed fourth in the 400-meter race, finishing in 53.04.

Rounding out Brandywine's top-five showings was the 4x400 relay team whose time of 3:35.82 was good for second.

Both Jasper Seay (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) and David Irby (Glenolden, Pa./Sun Valley) posted top-10 runs at 800 meters as Seay finished eighth (2:10.49) and Irby took 10th (2:19.62).

In field events, Irby posted a throw of 20.31 meters in the discus, while James Uyanna (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram) tossed the shot put 8.76 meters. Jamir Walker (Secane, Pa./Upper Darby) leaped 5.06 meters in the long jump.
