Brandywine Indoor Track & Field Debuts At Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine debuted its newest varsity sport on Saturday as the Lions' indoor track & field team competed for the first time this winter at Lehigh University's John Covert Classic.

After beginning its outdoor track & field program in 2017, Brandywine extended the season to indoor for the first time this year. Three men's competitors took part in the Lions' first-ever meet on Saturday. The John Covert Classic was comprised of NCAA Division I, II and III schools.

Michael DiOrio (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) clocked in at a time of 7.59 seconds in the 60-meter dash, finishing 39th in the 65-runner field, while William Ortiz (Queens, N.Y./Martin Luther School) crossed the finish line in 8.55 seconds. Ortiz also ran the 200-meters, posting a time of 28.39 seconds.

Caleb Madison (Brookhaven, Pa./Delaware County Christian) recorded a top-10 showing in the shot put after his first throw registered 9.38 meters. Madison placed ninth, less than one meter behind the fifth place finisher during his first collegiate competition.

Brandywine continues the indoor season next Saturday at the Frank Colden Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
