Brandywine Opens Outdoor Season At Golden Ram Invitational

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine got the 2019 outdoor track & field season started on Saturday afternoon at the Golden Ram Invitational hosted by West Chester University. The meet, which was comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III competition, did not feature team scoring.

The Lions posted a pair of top-three finishes as John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) was third in the 10,000-meter run and Ryan Cassidy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) placed third during the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Li's time of 38:47.85 set a new school record, while Cassidy posted a time of 12:13.32.

Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) also set a school record when he completed the 1,500-meter run in 4:45.24, while Sam Dikeumunna (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) clocked in at 5:09.24, giving him the second-fastest time in team history. Dikeumunna also competed at 800 meters, posting a time of 2:25.33.

Daniel Zimmerman (Cheyney, Pa./Rustin) rounded out the Lions on the track after running in the 200- and 400-meter sprints. He crossed the line in 26.63 seconds during the 200, while running to a time of 59.42 at 400 meters.

Brandywine added three top-10 showings in field events. Anmol Singh (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) was fifth of 10 javelin competitors, tossing a long throw of 32.91 meters, while Jose Campos' (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) heave of 27.63 meters placed him eighth.

Miko Allen (Ardmore, Pa./Upper Merion) led three Lions in the shot put, posting a top toss of 10.27 meters to claim 10th. Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) was right behind Allen in 11th (9.00 meters), while Singh took 13th (8.15 meters).

Lyon also earned a 14th-place showing in the discus throw (27.11 meters), just behind Caleb Madison (Brookhaven, Pa./Delaware County Christian), who was 13th with a long heave of 27.82 meters.

Brandywine travels south to Delaware to compete at the University of Delaware Invitational Saturday beginning at 10:30 am.
