Brandywine Places Seven In Top 10 At Delaware Classic

NEWARK, Del. -- Penn State Brandywine track & field athletes posted seven top-10 finishes and set three school records at the University of Delaware Classic, a meet that featured competitors from all three NCAA divisions, on Saturday afternoon.

John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished back-to-back in four and fifth place, respectively, during the men's 5,000-meter race. Li broke his own team record by finishing in a time of 18:12.27, while Cleary ran to a time of 19:02.02, a new personal best.

Also breaking Brandywine records on Saturday were Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Miko Allen (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion). Mooney smashed the Lions' 400-meter record by more than 19 seconds and finished in 13th place in a field of 30 women with a time of 1:02.59. Allen headlined three Lions in the men's shot put, heaving a long throw of 10.38 meters to break his own mark as he claimed eighth in the 19-man field.

Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) was 12th in the shot put with a throw of 9.80 meters, while Caleb Madison (Brookhaven, Pa./Delaware County Christian) posted a long toss of 9.03 meters.

Brandywine put three men in the top 10 during the javelin as Anmol Singh (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) placed seventh with a personal long throw of 33.23 meters, Madison was eighth (31.98m) and Lyon was ninth (31.41m). Lyon and Madison also competed in the discus throw. Lyon took 12th with a long heave of 26.77 meters, while Madison was two spots behind Lyon after posting a toss of 23.54 meters.

Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) added a ninth place showing during the 28-man, 800-meter race. Abel's time of 2:13.71 is the third-fastest 800-meter time in program history. He also ran the second-fastest time in team history at 1,500 meters, crossing the line in 4:45.85 to claim 11th. Sam Dikeumunna (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) was the 14th runner to hit the finish line at 1,500 meters, running to a time of 4:58.79, a new personal best.

Daniel Zimmerman (Cheyney, Pa./Rustin) added a 14th-place finish in the 400-meter dash and was 17th in the 200-meter sprint for the Lions, who finished 11th in the team scoring. Zimmerman posted a time of 59.98 seconds in the 400- and clocked in at 26.55 at 200 meters.

Brandywine travels to Millersville for the Millersville Metrics on Saturday, April 6 beginning at 9:30 am.
