Brandywine Faces Strong Competition At Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine track & field teams faced some of the top competition in the region on Saturday during the final day of the Pollard Invitational at Moravian College.

Leading Brandywine on the day was John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby), who broke his own school record in the 5,000-meter run by 33 seconds. He finished in a time of 17:39.92, claiming 37th place, while Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) crossed the line in 18:55.55 during the same race.

Caleb Madison (Brookhaven, Pa./Delaware County Christian) also put his name in the Brandywine record book, hurling the discus 29.31 meters, besting his own mark by 1.49 meters. Madison and Tyler Lyon (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) finished back-to-back in 25th and 26th place, respectively, in the javelin. Madison fired a long toss of 32.14 meters, while Lyon's top throw was 31.98 meters.

Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) sped to the second-fastest 1,500-meter time in Lions' history, completing the race in 4:36.13. Sam Dikeumunna (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) crossed the line in 4:58.82 during the 1,500-meter race and also competed at 800 meters, posting a time of 2:20.77.

Daniel Zimmerman (Cheyney, Pa./Rustin) recorded a time of 25.83 seconds during the 200-meter sprint, while crossing the finish line in 56.88 seconds at 400 meters.

For the Brandywine women, Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) tied for 31st in the 47-runner, 400-meter field. Her time of 1:03.87 was the second-fastest time in Brandywine history.

Brandywine competes at the two-day Widener Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
