Brandywine Women Place Second, Men Third At Mont Alto Invitational

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- Competing against Penn State University Athletic Conference competition for the first time this fall, the Penn State Brandywine women's cross country team posted a second place finish, while the men's squad claimed third at the Penn State Mont Alto Invitational on Saturday.

The women compiled 39 points, finishing 12 points behind first-place Mont Alto, and the men totaled 65 points, placing third following Penn State Fayette (45 points) and Penn State Schuylkill (60 points).

Anya Tyler (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) paced the Lion women with a second-place showing. She clocked in at 27:04 on the 6K course, just over one minute behind Katelynn Dillon, the individual medalist.

Monica Heitzer (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) was Brandywine's second runner to cross the finish line, taking ninth (34:46). Brooke Theveny (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) claimed 13th in a time of 36:54, while Angelica Rivers (Philadelphia, Pa./W.B. Saul) took 17th, posting a time of 43:33.

John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) was the first Lion to complete the men's 8K race, taking fourth in a time of 30:57. Alex Troncelitti (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) finished 50 seconds after Li in sixth place, while Raheem Naughty (Philadelphia, Pa./Boys Latin) took 17th (36:25).

Henry Lee (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) ran to 19th (36:33) and James Uyanna (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram) was 35th.

Brandywine, which will compete again at Mont Alto at the PSUAC Championships in just over one month, is idle until Oct. 8 when it travels to Allentown for the DeSales Invitational.
