Brandywine Claims Second At Home Invitational Behind Record Times

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's cross country team ran to a second-place showing at the Lions' home Blue Apple Invitational behind a pair of runners who broke the school-record 8K time on Saturday morning, while the women's team was led by A'Nasia Love's (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) 15th-place finish.

The Brandywine men posted a pair of top-10 showings and totaled 57 points overall. The Lions edged Camden County CC for second by one point, while Valley Forge Military College took home the team title with 51 points.

Leading the Brandywine men was Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley), who finished one place ahead of John Li (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) in sixth. Cleary posted a time of 28:58, while Li crossed the finish line five second later. Both runners shattered the school record 8K time, previously held by Li at 29:46. Li now owns eight of the top 10 times in program history.

David Fielding (West Chester, Pa./Salesianum) claimed 12th (29:57), while Steven Milnes' (West Chester, Pa./Central Bucks South) time of 31:44 was good for 22nd. Rounding out Brandywine in the 57-competitor race was Luke Dixon (Wayne, Pa./Radnor), who crossed the line in 34:17 and William Ortiz (Queens, N.Y./Martin Luther School), who ran to a time of 39:27.

Love ran the women's 5K race in a time of 25:37, while Brooke Theveny (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) was the second Lion to cross the finish line, taking 24th with a time of 29:27.

The Lions are back in action for the final time during the regular season at the Immaculata Invitational on Frida at 4:00 pm.
