Abel Lands Second Runner Of The Week Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine freshman Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) claimed his second Penn State University Athletic Conference Runner of the Week honor in as many weeks the league announced on Tuesday.

One week after making history as he became the first-ever Brandywine cross country runner to win an individual meet championship, Abel again made headlines last Saturday by shattering the program's 8K record. He finished Lebanon Valley's Dutchmen Invitational in a tme of 28:02, besting teammate Brendan Cleary's (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) previous benchmark by 56 seconds.

Abel's time was 22nd-best among the 118 runners at the Dutchmen Invitational. Seven days earlier, he won the Delaware Valley University Invitational, topping his next closest competitor by 44 seconds.

Brandywine will get its first taste of PSUAC competition on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Penn State Mont Alto Invitational.
