Brandywine Men Take Fourth; Abel, Mooney Finish Top 10 At Goldey Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's cross country team finished fourth, while two runners, Brian Abel (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury) and Catharine Mooney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley), placed in the top 10 of their respective races Friday morning during the Goldey Beacom Fall Classic.

Abel was the fifth runner to cross the finish line during the 66-competitor men's 8K race. His time of 28:39 stands as the fifth-fastest time in school history as Abel now owns each of the top five positions in the Lions' record book.

Alex Rosenberry (Etters, Pa./West Shore Christian Academy) ran to 14th by posting a time of 30:20, while Stephen Heck (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) ran to a time of 31:43 to finish 23rd.

Alex Consadene (Andover, Conn./RHAM), Ryan Cassidy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Tyler Cameron (Pocopson, Pa./Octorara) finished consecutively in positions 29-31 as Consadene recorded a time of 32:21 and Cassidy crossed the finish line nine seconds later. Cameron hit the line in 32:45, while Brendan Cleary (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) was 36th in a time of 34:07.

Brandywine totaled 97 points to finish fourth in the field of seven teams. Georgian Court claimed the team title with 39 points, followed by Goldey Beacom (71) and Bergen (88).

Mooney recorded the top time by a non-Division II runner, finishing the women's 41-competitor race in 22:45. The time is good for third-fastest in program history and is the second-best 5K mark of her two-year career. Earlier this fall, Mooney set the team 5K record at Lebanon Valley.

Running in her first race of the year, Fiorella Ruiz (Carteret, N.J./East Brunswick) registered a time of 31:23, while Angel Asomugha (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) crossed the line in 32:32.

Georgian Court also won the women's team title as the top-five individual times were all posted by GCU runners.

The Lions will run on their home course next weekend during the Brandywine Invitational beginning with the women's race at 10:00 am on Sept. 28.
