Lions Edge Scranton In Home Finale

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Lindsey Dellavecchio (Ridley Park, Pa./Interboro) recorded five hits and six stolen bases as the Penn State Brandywine softball team completed the home portion of its schedule undefeated at 8-0 with a two-game sweep of Penn State Scranton on Sunday. The Lions rallied to edge Scranton 2-1 in game one before rolling to an 11-0 win in the nightcap.

Dellavecchio singled during each of her first two at-bats in game one, but was left stranded both times as Brandywine was held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning.

Trailing 1-0, Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) roped a doubled and came around to score on Dellavecchio's third single of the game. After Dellavecchio stole second and third, she scored on Julia Allman's (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) base hit, giving Brandywine the lead.

Scranton put the tying run on first base in the seventh, but Danielle Spina (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) struck out the final two batters she faced to hold on for the victory.

The win was Spina's 10th of the season as she fanned five, while surrendering just one unearned run on three hits.

Robyn Gannon's (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) base hit scored Dellavecchio with game two's first during the Lions' first at-bat. Gannon crossed home on a ground out by Spina in the third to double Brandywine's lead.

The Lions then broke the game open with a nine-run fourth inning. Allman and Gannon delivered back-to-back RBI doubles and Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) followed with a two-run home run.

Spina's RBI triple plated Lauryn Geduldick (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat)  and Cheyenne Murphy (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) added an RBI single. Foeldes doubled in Murphy and later scored on Alexa Iacono's (Wilmington, Del./Concord) triple. Dellavecchio's RBI base hit capped the scoring.

Dellavecchio added two more hits and scored twice in game two, while Gannon notched three hits, two RBI and two runs. Steffen, Murphy and Iacono all produced two hits and Spina knocked in a pair.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) fired her sixth complete-game shutout of the season, improving to 8-6. She struck out nine in 5.0 innings and scattered five hits.
