Lions Defeated By Juniata, Pitt-Greensburg

CLERMONT, Fla. – Penn State Brandywine was limited to one run in both games as the Lions' softball team was defeated 4-1 by Juniata and 3-1 by Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday afternoon at the PFX Spring Games.

The Lions (0-4) tallied 10 hits during the opener against Juniata, but managed to push just one run across the plate.

Ashlee Stritzinger (Wilmington, Del./Concord) tallied three singles, while Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) and Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) each collected a pair of base hits.

Brandywine plated its lone run when Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) singled in Foeldes during the top of the seventh inning.

Juniata took advantage of four Brandywine errors as three of the four runs the Eagles scored off Brandywine pitcher Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) were unearned. DeRosa went the distance in the circle, striking out three, while allowing four hits.

Moser added two more hits in game two, while also pitching a complete game. All three runs she allowed were unearned after Brandywine committed three more errors. Moser fanned six and scattered six hits.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) provided the offense for Brandywine with a fifth-inning solo home run, the second blast of her career.

Following an off day Monday, Brandywine faces Roanoke (9:00 am) and Mount Ida (2:00 pm) on Tuesday.
