Pitching Dominates Scranton; Allman Records 100th Hit

ASTON, Pa. – Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) and Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) both fired five-inning no-hitters, the third and fourth no-nos in Penn State Brandywine softball history, as the Lions swept the first two games of four this weekend against Penn State Scranton by identical 9-0 scores. Highlighting the offense, senior Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) recorded the 100^th hit of her four-year career during game one.

Both DeRosa and Moser allowed just one base runner, while mowing down Scranton hitters. DeRosa fanned five batters during game one and Moser struck out six in the second game.

DeRosa set down the first seven batters she faced before a Brandywine error allowed Scranton to receive its lone base runner. She bounced back to record the next eight outs in order, including a strikeout of Jordan Peters to end the game.

Brandywine scored all nine of its runs during the first four innings. Allman's 99^th career hit, a single during the first inning, plated Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) with the first of Brandywine's three runs in the frame.

Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) added a run-scoring triple in the second and Julie Foeldes' (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) two-run double aided a four-run fourth that also saw Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) drive in runs with base hits.

DeStefano went 3-for-4 at the plate and Foeldes knocked in three, while Segich, Allman and Anderson all produced multi-hit performances.

Allman became the first player in Brandywine softball history to reach 100 career hits with a fifth-inning, infield single to short.

Moser had no problem with the Scranton lineup in game two as she struck out four of the first seven batters she faced before allowing a third-inning walk for Scranton's lone base runner. She allowed only one ball to be hit out of the infield, a fly out to center field in the fourth inning.

Brandywine tallied 10 hits in game two off the bat of eight different hitters. Segich reached base four times, recording two hits and two walks, while Anderson tallied a second multi-hit effort.

Allman singled in Segich and then scored on a pass ball, while Foeldes added an RBI double to give Brandywine a 3-0 lead after one inning. Segich crossed home again in the second after scoring via a Scranton error before Brandywine blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning.

Brandywine and Scranton will complete the four-game series with two more games on Saturday afternoon.
