MEDIA, Pa. -- Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) shut out Penn State Scranton for the second time Saturday in game one and Penn State Brandywine pushed 12 runs across during the first inning of game two as the Lions posted a pair of victories over Scranton late Saturday afternoon. Brandywine won the opener 8-0 and closed out the nightcap by a score of 16-5.
After firing a no-hitter hours earlier, DeRosa again blanked Scranton, striking out seven in five innings of work. She surrendered seven hits, all singles, while evening her record at 3-3 this spring.
Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) went 4-for-4 at the plate, scored four runs and stole six bases. Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) added two hits, including her first home run of the spring, a solo shot in the third, and knocked in two runs.
Segich scored the first run of the game on Julia Allman's (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) sacrifice fly in the first and Foeldes added an RBI double. Segich tacked on a run-scoring base hit in the second inning and then came around to score in the fourth when Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) doubled to left field.
The Lions were never threatened in game two after plating 12 first-inning runs. Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Stephanie Harvey (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) both hit two-run home runs. Harvey also drove in a pair with a double, while Allman added an RBI single and run-scoring double and Brittany Sroga (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection College Prep) knocked in a run with a base hit.
Harvey went 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Allman, Anderson and Gina Mazurkiewicz (Monroe Township, N.J/Monroe Township) all added two hits and two runs scored. Segich stole two more bases and crossed home twice.
DeStefano picked up her first win of the season after fanning seven Scranton hitter in five innings. She allowed five hits and just two of the five runs surrendered were earned.
Brandywine (6-6, 4-0 PSUAC) travels to Valley Forge on Monday for a doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm.
