Brandywine Drops Two At Wesley

DOVER, Del. -- Penn State Brandywine recorded a combined 18 hits in two games, but stranded 16 runners on base during a pair of narrow losses at Wesley College on Monday afternoon. The Wolverines took game one, 3-1 and won the nightcap, 5-4.

Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) produced two of Brandywine's seven hits during the opener, including a one-out double in the third inning. Allman came around to score the Lions' lone run of the game when Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) singled with two outs.

Brandywine put multiple runners on base in four-of-seven innings overall, but was unable to muster any more scores.

The game was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Lauren Hoffman's bases-loaded single drove in a pair of runs to put the Wolverines in front.

Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) struck out six, while allowing three earned runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings and took the loss. Lindsay Siok earned her 11th win of the season in a complete-game effort for Wesley.

The Lions built a 3-0 lead in game two as Anderson pushed across two runs with a double and then scored when Stephanie Harvey (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) followed with a base hit two batters later.

However, Wesley immediately answered with five runs during the bottom of the frame to claim a two-run lead. Brandywine crept closer in the sixth when Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) led off with a double and scored on Arianna Segich's (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) single, but the Lions could not push across the tying run.

Malfara recorded a pair of doubles and three hits overall, while Anderson also tallied a three-hit performance in game two. Segich extended her hitting streak to 10 games with a pair of singles in the nightcap and also stole a base for the 21st time this season.

Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) received her second loss after surrendering five runs (four earned), while striking out two in 6.0 innings in the circle. Siok tossed 4.2 innings in relief to win her second game of the afternoon.

Brandywine (6-8, 4-0 PSUAC) returns to conference play when it opens a four-game series with Penn State Wilkes Barre on Friday at 3:00 pm at Maple Zone.
