Brandywine Posts Lopsided Victories Over Wilkes Barre

ASTON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team totaled 35 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Penn State Wilkes Barre as the Lions won game one 16-0 in four innings and took game two 19-0 in three innings.

Game one was highlighted by Grace DeRosa's (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) second no-hitter of the season. DeRosa matched a career-high with nine strikeouts, including the 100th of her career when she fanned Leandra Ricks during the third inning, becoming the second pitcher in the team's history to reach 100 Ks. A two-out walk during the first inning was the lone blemish for DeRosa, who set down the final 10 batters in order.

Brandywine needed just nine hits from eight different players to score its 16 runs as Wilkes Barre committed five errors.

Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) clubbed her first-career home run, a three-run shot during the Lions' nine-run second inning, while Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Gina Mazurkiewicz (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) each knocked in two runs. Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) added a pair of hits and scored two runs.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) each recorded two hits and scored three runs during game two. Malfara, Anderson and Mazurkiewicz all drove in three runs, while Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Stephanie Harvey (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) both crossed home three times.

Moser struck out eight of the 10 batters she faced to set a career high as she earned her third win. She allowed just one hit, a single in the second inning.

Brandywine (8-8, 6-0 PSUAC) and Wilkes Barre play two more games Sunday at 2:00 pm.
