DeRosa, DeStefano No-Hit Wilkes Barre

WILKES BARRE, Pa. -- In game one, Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) threw the first perfect game in Penn State Brandywine softball history during a 16-0 victory, while Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) followed with a no-hitter in a 17-0 game two triumph over Penn State Wilkes Barre on Sunday afternoon.

DeRosa fired three perfect innings, holding an opponent hitless for the third time in her last four outings in the circle. She struck out five and did not allow a ball to leave the infield as she no-hit Wilkes Barre for the second time in three days.

After throwing six one-hit shutouts during her first two seasons at Brandywine, DeStefano tossed the first no-hitter of her career in game two. DeStefano fanned six hitters, including five of the final six she faced, and allowed just one base runner on a walk during the first inning.

Three Brandywine pitchers have now combined to throw five no-hitters against PSUAC opponents during the last 17 days after the team had posted just two no-hitters in three prior seasons of varsity softball.

DeStefano added a two-run triple in game one, while Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area), who has also thrown a no-hitter this season, also knocked in two runs. Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) added two hits and scored twice and Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) crossed home three times.

Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead the offense in game two. Moser tacked on two RBI and scored twice, while Stephanie Harvey (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) and Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) both scored a pair of runs.

Brandywine (10-8, 8-0 PSUAC) continues conference play on Tuesday at Maple Zone against Penn State Schuylkill at 3:00 pm.
