Lions Remain Unbeaten In PSUAC With Routs Of Schuylkill

ASTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine softball team improved to 10-0 in Penn State University Athletic Conference play with victories by scores of 9-1 and 10-0 over Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday afternoon.

Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham), who was named USCAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season earlier on Tuesday, set a program record with 11 strikeouts in game one. She whiffed seven of the first eight batters she faced, while giving up just one run on three hits in 5.0 innings to win for the sixth time this season. DeRosa is now 5-0 with a 0.30 ERA in five starts against PSUAC squads.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) collected three hits and knocked in two runs, while Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead Brandywine at the plate.

After two scoreless innings, Brandywine struck for six runs in the third. DeStefano started the scoring with a two-run triple and then crossed home on Alexa Anderson's (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) groundout. Three batters later, Stephanie Harvey's (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional) single plated Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) and Malfara followed by doubling in a pair of runs.

Brandywine closed out the game with a three-run fifth inning as Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) scored via a wild pitch and Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) both worked bases-loaded walks.

The Lions eased to a 10-0 victory during game two, scoring five times in the first inning to take control of the nightcap. Segich's three-run triple highlighted a four-run third inning and she tacked on a run-scoring single in the fourth.

Moser limited Schuylkill to just two hits over 5.0 innings as she produced her third shutout of the season and fourth victory.

Five players recorded two hits, including Segich, who drove in four runs and scored twice, and nine different players scored at least one run for Brandywine.

Brandywine (12-8, 10-0 PSUAC) travel to Penn State Hazleton on Thursday for a 2:00 pm doubleheader.
