Lions Drop Home Twinbill To F&M

ASTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine softball team was defeated twice by Franklin & Marshall on Thursday afternoon, falling by scores of 9-3 and 10-0 at Maple Zone.

Brandywine (15-13) led the opener 1-0 after one inning as Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) reached on an error and sped home from first on Katie DeStefano's (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) single.

However, the Diplomats answered with four runs in the second and would never relinquish the lead. The Lions got as close as one run down in the fourth when DeStefano led off with a double and scored on Alexa Anderson's (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) two-base hit. Three batters later, Megan Crisafulli (Kennett Square, Pa./Coatesville) delivered a run-scoring single, plating Anderson to make the score 4-3.

F&M added two insurance runs in the fifth before scoring three more in the seventh to account for the final total.

DeStefano recorded two of Brandywine's six hits, scored a run and knocked in one.

The Lions were limited to three hits during game two and the Diplomats scored in every inning but the fourth to capture the nightcap.

Velez doubled in the third, while Anderson and Crisfulli each recorded a single.

F&M collected 14 hits in five innings, including three each from Kelly Van O'Linda and Katie Wenger.

Brandywine hosts Christendom on Saturday at noon for Senior Day during the Lions' final home contests of the year.
