Brandywine Celebrates Senior Day With Two Victories

ASTON, Pa. -- A pair of lopsided victories highlighted Penn State Brandywine's first-ever softball Senior Day as the Lions posted two five-inning triumphs, winning 15-7 and 17-3 over Christendom College on Saturday afternoon.

Playing the final two home games of her career, senior Julia Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) collected three hits, scored four runs and drove in three. The only player to compete in every season during Brandywine softball's four-year history, Allman was a winner in 36-of-44 home games in her career, including a 32-3 mark since the beginning of the 2015 season.

Brandywine recorded double-figure hits in both games, collecting 24 overall. Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored in game one, while Megan Crisafulli (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) posted the same numbers in the nightcap.

Brittany Sroga (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection College Prep) totaled three hits and Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) crossed home five times. Alexa Cervella (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Gina Mazurkiewicz (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) both had two hits and two runs scored in game two. Cervella also knocked in four runs.

The Lions trailed game one 6-2 entering the bottom of the third inning, but tied the contest with four scores before taking the lead for good with two more in the fourth.

Sroga set down a suicide squeeze that plated Velez and three batters later, Crisafulli lined a triple into the left field corner to push across two more runs. An error allowed Crisfulli to score Brandywine's fourth run of the frame, tying the score.

One frame later, Allman recorded a RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch to put Brandywine in front 8-6.

Velez, Anderson, Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) and Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) all tallied run-scoring hits in the fifth as Brandywine put the game out of reach with seven more runs.

Brandywine jumped on Christendom early in game two, scoring eight times during the first frame. Foeldes and Crisafulli both tallied RBI singles, while Cervella delivered the big blow during the inning by sending a bases-clearing double to the fence in left field.

Allman added to the lead with a two-RBI double in the second and Crisafulli tacked on a run-scoring single in the third.

After Anderson's fourth-inning triple plated Allman, Anderson scored on a Crisafulli base hit. Sroga added a RBI double to cap the scoring.

Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) was the winning pitcher during both games, giving her seven victories on the season. She allowed one earned run in 2.0 relief innings in the opener and held Christendom to three runs (one earned) on one hit in game two, while totaling six strikeouts.

Brandywine (17-13, 13-1 PSUAC) closes out the regular season at Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
