DeRosa, Foeldes Claim Final PSUAC Softball Weekly Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- A pair of Penn State Brandywine softball student-athletes earned the final Penn State University Athletic Conference awards of the season as Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) was named pitcher of the week and Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) landed hitter of the week laurels.

DeRosa and Foeldes helped Brandywine sweep Penn State Schuylkill by scores of 6-0 and 15-3 during the final regular-season games of the year as the Lions upper their record to 19-13 overall, including a 15-1 mark in the PSUAC.

In game one, DeRosa twirled her sixth complete-game shutout of the year as she held Schuylkill to just three hits and struck out six during 7.0 innings in the circle. The win was DeRosa's seventh of the season, with six of those victories coming against conference foes.

She lowered her earned run average to just 1.30 in eight starts against PSUAC teams this season. Five of her six shutouts came in league matchups, including two no-hitters and the first perfect game in program history on April 9 at Penn State Wilkes Barre.

Foeldes collected a two-run double in game one against Schuylkill before going 3-for-3 at the plate with a career-high five RBI in the nightcap. During game two, she added another RBI double before clubbing her second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third inning.

In 32 games this spring, Foeldes is batting .275 with two home runs and 19 RBI. She has also scored 19 runs and stolen four bases, while her 10 extra-base hits are a team best.

Brandywine begins its trek toward a third-straight PSUAC championship on Sunday when it faces the No. 2 seed from the PSUAC Western Division, Penn State Fayette, at 1:00 pm on the campus of Penn State Scranton.
