PSUAC Selects Segich Player Of The Year; Names Four To All-Conference Softball Teams

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore centerfielder Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) was voted Penn State University Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year by the the league's coaches the conference announced recently. Joining Segich as a First Team All-PSUAC selection was Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham), while Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and Maura Moser (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) both collected second team awards.

Now a two-time first team honoree, Segich hit .491 in conference games and .464 overall, collecting 45 hits in 97 at-bats. She topped the conference in stolen bases with 33, which was 11 more than her closest competitor. Segich recorded at least one hit in 27 of the 30 games she played, including a 13-game hitting streak from April 9-May 8.

In nearly half of her games played, Segich posted multi-hit efforts, tallying 14 overall, with eight coming against PSUAC opponents. She also had four-hit performances against Penn State Scranton on March 24 and at Penn State Wilkes Barre on April 9.

During two seasons at Brandywine, Segich owns a .425 batting average with five home runs and 45 runs batted in. She is four knocks shy of becoming Brandywine's second player to reach 100 career hits.

DeRosa started nine games against PSUAC opponents and pitched to a 7-1 record with a 1.56 earned run average. Tied for the overall team lead in wins at eight with Moser, DeRosa struck out 72 hitters in 80.2 innings and led all PSUAC pitchers by averaging 8.24 strikeouts per start in conference games.

A two-time USCAA Pitcher of the Week this spring, DeRosa fired a pair of no-hitters before throwing the first perfect game in Brandywine softball history at Penn State Wilkes Barre on April 9. She totaled six complete-game shutouts, with five coming against league opposition.

DeStefano logged a .402 batting average overall and recorded 22 hits in 49 conference at-bats as a .449 hitter in league play. She ranked second in the PSUAC with five triples, while tying for the team lead in extra-base hits at 11. Also third on the team in runs scored (27) and fourth in RBI (18), DeStefano registered at least one hit in 14-of-17 PSUAC contests.

In the circle, DeStefano was the winning pitcher five times against PSUAC foes. She struck out 27 batters in 38.1 innings of work and threw the first no-hitter of her career at Penn State Wilkes Barre on April 9.

During 99 career games, DeStefano has tallied 77 hits and is a .381 hitter, while also recording 19 victories and striking out 150 in 43 appearances as a pitcher.

The winning pitcher in Brandywine's 3-1 PSUAC championship triumph over Penn State Hazleton on Monday, Moser went 8-4 in the circle during her freshman season. She struck out 53 batters in 74.1 innings, while throwing 10 complete games during 12 starts and posting a 2.73 ERA.

In conference starts, Moser was nearly unhittable as she went 5-0 with a 0.47 earned run average. She recorded four shutouts, including a no-hitter, and allowed only 23 baserunners in 30.0 innings, while fanning 28 hitters.

Brandywine (21-13) won the PSUAC championship for the third-straight year earlier this week. The Lions are seeded fifth in the USCAA World Series and will open the tournamento on May 15 against No. 4 SUNY Canton
