Seven Brandywine Softball Players Garner All-American Scholar-Athlete Awards

Lousville, Ky. -- Nearly half of the members of the 2017 Penn State Brandywine softball team were honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday as seven student-athletes claimed All-American Scholar-Athlete awards.

Earning awards for the second time during their careers were Julie Foeldes, Maddie Malfara and Stephanie Harvey, while Alexa Anderson, Grace DeRosa, Ashlee Stritzinger and Maura Moser all earned their first honors.

To land the award, student-athletes must amass a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher during the entire academic year. A total of 5,494 softball players from four-year college were honored with Brandywine's being the lone representatives from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association and Penn State University Athletic Conference. Brandywine was also the only one of the 17 campuses in the Penn State University system that sponsors varsity softball to be presented with All-American Scholar-Athlete laurels.

Last week, the Brandywine claimed the Easton/NFCA All-Academic Team Award after compiling a team GPA of 3.46, the highest of any USCAA school, during the 2016-17 academic year.

Of the seven honorees, Anderson, Malfara and Foeldes will be returning to the team in 2018. Brandywine has won three-straight PSUAC championships and placed fourth at the USCAA World Series in back-to-back seasons.
