Brandywine Softball Releases 2018 Schedule

MEDIA, Pa. -- Head Coach Mark Caserta released his 2018 schedule for the fifth season of varsity softball at Penn State Brandywine on Thursday.

Brandywine, the three-time defending Penn State University Athletic Conference champion, will play 40 regular-season games during March and April. Eighteen of Brandywine's 20 non-conference games will come against NCAA Division III teams. The Lions, who are 52-2 against PSUAC teams during the last three seasons, will also play 20 conference games, a four-game series against each of its five Eastern Division foes, for the second-straight season.

The regular season begins in Florida where Brandywine will play its first eight games, all against Division III opponents, during its annual Spring Break trip to Clermont, Fla. On March 3, the Lions face Johnson State (Vt.) and Southwestern (Tx.) and one day later, will square off with Catholic and Franklin (Ind.). Following a day off, Brandywine plays Mitchell (Conn.) and Dominican (Ill.) on Tuesday, March 6. The trip concludes on March 7 against Bates (Maine) and Alvernia.

Upon the team's return to Pennsylvania, Brandywine opens a season-long six-game homestand March 12th against Maine-Presque Isle. All of Brandywine's home games will once again be played at Maple Zone.

Following a March 16 doubleheader versus the College of St. Joseph (Vt.), Brandywine begins conference play with four games in three days against Penn State Schuylkill starting on March 22.

A mid-week home twinbill with Wesley (Mar. 27) is followed by back-to-back four game series against Penn State Wilkes Barre (Mar. 30 & Apr. 2) and Penn State Hazleton (Apr. 6-7). Hazleton is the only PSUAC team that has defeated Brandywine since the beginning of the 2015 season, but the Lions won four-of-five meetings last year, including a 3-1 decision in the PSUAC title game.

The Lions play three non-conference doubleheaders in April, including two at Maple Zone. Brandywine hosts Eastern on Apr. 10 and Stratford (Va.) on Apr. 17, one day after a visit to Widener.

Brandywine faces a first-year program in Penn State York at home on Apr. 12 and then travels to York two days later to complete the series. The Lions finish out the regular season with four games against Penn State Scranton. April 20 will feature the Lions' final home games of the year, while April 21 the regular-season concludes at UGI Softball Field on Scranton's campus in Dunmore.
