Lions Drop Final Games In Clermont To Bates, Alvernia

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team dropped its final two games at the PFX Spring Games on Wednesday morning, falling 1-0 to Bates College before dropping a 6-1 decision to Alvernia.

Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) surrendered only four hits to Bates and did not allow an earned run, but took the loss after firing a complete game. DeStefano struck out two and walked one in 7.0 innings.

The Bobcats scored the lone run of the game in the fourth inning when Caroline Bass reached on an error, stole second and scored on Julia Panepinto's double.

Brandywine was limited to a pair of hits, singles from Alexa Anderson (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Rachel Cherubini (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove).

In game two, Alvernia scored twice in the third inning and added to its lead with a pair of home runs, one in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Brandywine was held off the scoreboard until the seventh when the Lions loaded the bases with two outs. Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) delivered a base hit to plate Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick), erasing Alvernia's shutout bid.

Segich and Foeldes both had multi-hit games to account for the Lions' four hits. DeStefano went the distance in the circle for the fourth consecutive game, allowing six runs and striking out one.

Brandywine faces Maine-Presque Isle in its home opener Monday at 3:00 pm at Maple Zone.
