Szpindor Earns Weekly Honors From PSUAC, USCAA

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine freshman Alexandra Szpindor (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference and United States Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Hitter of the Week on Tuesday.

Szpindor had a big week at the plate, batting .536 (15-28) with a slugging percentage of 1.071 after collecting nine extra-base hits. She homered twice, the first two long balls of her collegiate career, and drove in 16 runs, while scoring 10.

Szpindor, who hit safely in all eight games last week, record six multi-RBI games, tallying a season-best five runs batted in in a win over SUNY Delhi on Friday. She enters the week tied for second in the conference with 23 RBI.

Szpindor also had a strong week in the circle, pitching to a 3-1 record with one save in five appearaces. She posted a 2.73 earned run average, while striking out nine batters in 25.2 innings.

Through 20 games, Szpindor is the PSUAC leader in hits with 29 and ranks fourth in the league with a .453 batting average. Her 10 extra-base hits are good for second in the conference.

After facing Delaware Valley University on Tuesday, Brandywine (9-11, 4-0 PSUAC) opens a four-game series with Penn State Hazleton Thursday at Maple Zone at 3:00 pm.
