Lions Cruise Past Beaver; Move Into Winners' Bracket

DUBOIS, Pa. – Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) led off the game with an inside-the-park home run and No. 2 Penn State Brandywine never looked back, cruising to a 13-1, five-inning victory over No. 1 Penn State Beaver Sunday afternoon in the PSUAC Softball Tournament.

Brandywine, the four-time defending conference champion, will battle Penn State DuBois in a winner's bracket game Sunday night with a spot in Monday's conference title game on the line.

Brandywine racked up its 13 runs on 14 hits topped by three-hit efforts from Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) and Fiona Warren (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley). Malfara homered for the second time this season and drove in four runs overall, while Warren added two RBI.

Segich, Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) and Haley Grossi (Monmouth Junction, N.J./South Brunswick) all recorded two hits for the Lions, who won their 14^th-straight PSUAC Tournament game.

Cara Fabiano (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) made quick work of the Beaver hitters, limiting Beaver to one run on two hits to earn her 11^th victory. Fabiano fanned three hitters, needing just 68 pitches to get through seven innings of work.

After Segich's leadoff home run, Sullivan added a run-scoring double and scored on an error for a 3-0 Brandywine lead after one. Warren added the first of her two RBI base hits in the third to up the Lions' edge to 4-1.

Malfara launched a two-run home run in the fourth and tacked on a two-run single as part of a seven-run fifth inning for the Lions, who collected six hits during the frame.
