Fabiano, Segich Claim Weekly Awards Following PSUAC Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Freshman Cara Fabiano (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) was named PSUAC Pitcher of the Week and senior center fielder Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) was tabbed as the PSUAC Hitter of the Week after the duo helped Penn State Brandywine claim its fifth-straight conference softball championship on Monday.

Fabiano went 2-0 in the circle last weekend, including a victory in the Lions' championship-clinching 7-1 triumph over Penn State DuBois.

First, she limited Penn State Beaver, the top seed from the West Division, to one run on two hits, while striking out three over five innings in the tournament opener. One day later, Fabiano yielded five hits to DuBois through two innings, but settled down, allowing just two hitters to reach base the rest of the way.

Fabiano leads the Lions with 12 victories and 56 strikeouts in 115.0 innings pitched this spring. She has fired 12 complete games in 23 starts in the circle.

Segich opened Brandywine's tournament run with a lead off inside-the-park home run against Beaver and went 4-for-9 at the plate overall. She stole seven more bases, giving her a USCAA-leading 61 on the season and scored two runs during each of Brandywine's three victories.

In 39 games this season, Segich is tied for the conference lead with 53 hits and is batting .390. She also tops the league with 49 runs scored, while adding six extra-base hits and 16 RBI.

Brandywine (23-17) will face Penn State Hazleton in the first round of the USCAA World Series Monday at 10:00 am in DuBois.
