Hot-Hitting Brandywine Sweeps Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's offense combined for 23 runs on 32 hits during a Penn State University Athletic Conference softball sweep at Penn State Mont Alto on Friday afternoon. The Lions claimed game one 10-3 and rolled 13-2 in the nightcap.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 10, Penn State Mont Alto 3

Brandywine scored in six of its seven at-bats to claim the opening game of the doubleheader.

Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) started the scoring in the second with an RBI double that plated Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Memorial). Mont Alto answered with a run in its half of the second, but Brandywine went ahead for good in the third as Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) scored via wild pitch and Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) stole home.

Gianna Terpolilli (Hammonton, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) singled and scored on Rees' two-out single in the fourth, while four more runs crossed home in the fifth. Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) started the frame with a base hit and later scored on a wild pitch. DeDios drove in Destiny Brophy (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) with a single and James added her second run-scoring double of the afternoon before scoring via passed ball.

Farrell Everett's (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) sacrifice fly made the score 9-1 in the sixth and Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) RBI two-base hit completed the scoring one inning later.

Landis went the distance in the circle during her first start of the spring to earn the win. She struck out one and allowed two earned runs on six hits.

Cassario went 3-for-4 at the plate, while James produced two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases. Rees also swiped two bags and tallied two singles and DeDios added two hits and two runs scored.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 13, Penn State Mont Alto 2

Mont Alto led 2-0 after one inning, but Brandywine exploded for nine runs against defending PSUAC Pitcher of the Year Kirsten Dell in the second inning to blow open game two.

The Lions registered their nine runs on nine hits, while sending 14 batters to the plate. Taylor D'Attilio (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) recorded a pair of RBI singles during the frame and James and Rees both added two-run singles. Landis doubled in James and DeDios, while DeDios notched an RBI single.

Ferry and DeDios both added run-scoring hits during the next two innings before the Lions padded their lead with two more scores in the fifth following Landis' two-run single.

Cassario finished the day with seven hits after going 4-for-4 with two runs scored in game two. Ferry tallied three hits, while James, Terpolilli, Landis, D'Attilio and DeDios all produced two hits for the Lions, who collected 18 overall.

Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) recorded her second victory of the year after pitching five innings and allowing two runs on nine hits. She struck out one.

Brandywine (14-8, 4-0 PSUAC) plays for the third consecutive day Saturday when the Lions visit Penn State DuBois at 2:00 PM.
