Brandywine Holds Off Miami-Hamilton; Advances At USCAA World Series

DUBOIS, Pa. – A five-run third inning was all Penn State Brandywine would need as the third-seeded Lions, playing for the third time in 12 hours, held off No. 8 Miami-Hamilton by a score of 5-4 to advance at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association World Series late Tuesday night.

Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) went the first six innings and earned her 18th victory of the year. MUH tallied 11 hits off Cassario, but she limited the damage, allowing just two runs in the first inning and two more in the sixth.

Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley), the winning pitcher in a victory over Penn State DuBois earlier Tuesday, shut the door in the seventh for her first save. Moore allowed a one-out double, but left the game-tying run stranded at third by recording back-to-back groundouts.

Gianna Terpolilli (Hammonton, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy), who recorded two of Brandywine's seven hits, started a run of six-consecutive Lions to reach base in the third with a leadoff single. After Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) followed with a base hit, an error allowed Terpolilli to score the Lions' first run. James steal of home tied the score, while an error allowed Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) to cross home with the go-ahead run. Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Memorial) finished off the rally with a two-out single that plated Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford).

Brandywine (34-12), which extended its team-record victory total to 34 with a pair of wins Tuesday, will battle Penn State Schuylkill at noon on Wednesday.
