MANSFIELD, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team was dealt an 88-61 defeat at NCAA Division II Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine received team highs of 12 points and six rebounds from Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), while Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added 11 points and five rebounds.

Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) contributed eight points and seven steals and Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied seven points and six rebounds.

Mansfield led 21-15 after one quarter and opened up a 23-point halftime lead after outscoring Brandywine 27-10 during the second stanza.

The Lions made a run during the third quarter as Munro opened the half with five-straight points and Gledhill added a jumper and a free throw during a 10-4 spurt. Brandywine continued to narrow the margin as Hinton's layup started a 12-2 surge midway through the third and Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) buried a three to pull Brandywine within 11.

Kempf's jumper early in the fourth quarter brought the deficit to single digits; however, those would be Brandywine's final points as Mansfield closed the game with an 18-0 run, holding the Lions scoreless over the final 7:02, to escape with the victory.

Brandywine (3-2) visits Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday at 6:00 pm for its first conference game of the season.
