READING, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine led by 21 points after one quarter and ran away with an 80-56 victory at Penn State Berks on Tuesday night, earning its first victory of the season.

The Lions received a career-high 17 points from Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), who drained four three-pointers and 6-of-10 shots overall, while also matching a team best with six rebounds and grabbing two steals.

Madison D'Ambrosio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) connected on all six of her shots from the field, totaling 13 points, and Kendra Stanford (Philadelphia, Pa./William Bodine) added 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) and Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) both dished out five assists. Dent also collected four steals, while Velez chipped in nine points.

Gledhill, whose career high entering the night was 13 points on two occasions during her freshman season, opened the game with a three-pointer and then capped a 10-1 run to start the contest with another triple.

Later in the quarter, D'Ambrosio netted seven-straight points with two layups and triple to swell the Lions' lead to 23-6 and Velez' free throw with 22 seconds left sent Brandywine to a 29-8 edge after one quarter.

After a slow start to the second stanza which saw Berks climb to within 15 with 2:16 to play before halftime, Gledhill and Velez knocked down back-to-back three-pointers as part of an 8-0 Brandywine spurt, giving the Lions a 43-23 advantage at the break.

Brandywine continued to pull away during the second half, leading by as many as 30 points following a D'Ambrosio bucket midway through the fourth quarter, before closing with the 25-point win.

Brandywine drilled 44 percent of its shots from the field, while limiting Berks to 32 percent shooting and holding a 41-32 edge on the boards. The Lions, who knocked down 10 three-pointers, forced 25 turnovers and recorded 22 second-chance points.

The Lions (1-3) return home on Saturday for a non-conference game against Rosemont at 1:00 pm.
