Brandywine Bests Greater Allegheny 67-41

MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team limited Penn State Greater Allegheny to 27 percent shooting from the field, stretching its winning streak to 11 games, with a 67-41 triumph on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine also forced 22 GA turnovers and held a distinct 57-40 rebounding margin, with 16 of the squad's boards coming on the offensive end.

Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) began the game with a three-pointer and added her second triple of the stanza with 21 seconds left as Brandywine ran out to a 15-7 lead after one.

Brandywine netted eight-straight points in a 2:55 span of the second quarter, building a 21-9 edge on Nicolette Napoleon's (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) layup at the 5:03 mark. Napoleon added two more buckets during the final 93 seconds of the half as Brandywine established a 16-point advantage through 20 minutes.

The Lions put the game away during the third quarter, outscoring GA 24-4. After Ronnie Upsher netted the first shot of the half for GA, Brandywine scored 24 of the next 26 points, including the final 12, to run away with the victory.

Napoleon recorded 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and added six rebounds, while Velez buried four triples en route to a team-high 14 points.

Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) contributed five points, six rebounds and five assists and both Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Kendra Stanford (Philadelphia, Pa./William Bodine) netted nine points.

Brandywine shot 36 percent (25-69) from the field and produced an assist on 17 of its 25 made baskets. Upsher paced Greater Allegheny with 12 points and 12 boards.

Brandywine (14-4, 7-1 PSUAC) plays its final non-conference game of the season at home on Tuesday against Valley Forge (7:00 pm).
