Brandywine Earns No. 3 Seed; Draws Villa Maria In USCAA First Round

MEDIA, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine will be the No. 3 seed and face sixth-seeded Villa Maria College (N.Y.) when the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Tournament begins next week on the campus of Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, Pa.

The Lions, coming off a Penn State University Athletic Conference Tournament championship victory on Sunday, will be competing at the USCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. This will be the program's first appearance at the national level since the 2012-13 season.

Brandywine and Villa Maria are slated to tip off at 7:30 pm on Thursday, March 2 in Maltho Arena.

Brandywine matched a school record by winning 21 games this winter, its 11th season under the direction of Head Coach Larry Johnson. The Lions won 21 of their final 25 games following a 0-3 start to the season.

Villa Maria posted a record of 17-8, winning its final six games during the regular season. The Vikings, playing their second season of varsity basketball, are making their first appearance at the USCAA Tournament.

March 2 quarterfinals: 

Game 1 - No. 4 Southern Maine CC vs. No. 5 Penn State Hazleton – 4:00 pm

Game 2 - No. 1 Central Maine CC vs. No. 8 Penn State Fayette – 6:00 pm

Game 3 - No. 3 Penn State Brandywine vs. No. 6 Villa Maria – 7:30 pm

Game 4 - No. 2 Penn State Lehigh Valley vs. No. 7 Albany College of Pharmacy – 9:30 pm

 

March 3 semifinals:

Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner – 7:00 pm

Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner – 9:00 pm
