Brandywine Deals Davis 69-49 Defeat

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine broke open what was an eight-point margin at halftime by outscoring Davis College 41-29 over the final 20 minutes to ease to a non-conference women's basketball victory on Thursday night by a score of 69-49.

Brandywine held the Falcons to 26 percent shooting and forced 27 turnovers, while collecting 18 steals.

Offensively, three players reached double figures in scoring as Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) led the way with 17 points and Madison D'Ambrosio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) added 13 points. Crystal Miller (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) coupled 10 points with 13 rebounds for her first double-double.

Velez also grabbed eight steals, while Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) recorded 14 rebounds and eight steals, along with five points and Kendra Stanford (Philadelphia, Pa./William Bodine) chipped in eight points and eight boards.

Twenty-two of Brandywine's 57 rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor, leading to 14 second-chance points.

The Lions took their first lead of the game following a D'Ambrosio three-pointer with 3:18 to play in the first quarter. That triple was part of a 10-2 Brandywine spurt to end the first stanza, giving the Lions a six-point cushion.

Brandywine held the Falcons to 1-of-12 shooting from the floor during the second quarter, extending their lead to 28-20 by halftime.

Following the break, the Lions steadily grew the advantage as it reached 16 points by the midway point of the third quarter after Miller sank a pair of free throws. The lead reached 20 points early in the fourth quarter before Chantel Hatton's (Philadelphia, Pa./Chester) triple gave Brandywine its biggest edge at 66-40 with 3:18 to go and the Lions would cruise to the finish.

Brandywine (3-3) plays its first conference game on Saturday when the Lions face Penn State Lehigh Valley at 1:00 pm. The game will be played at Lehigh Carbon Community College.
