Brandywine Doubles Up Mont Alto 82-41

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine overwhelmed Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday night to claim a Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball victory by an 82-41 count, the team's 10th-straight triumph.

Brandywine held Mont Alto without a field goal over the first 6:30, opening up a 12-2 lead. The Lions' edge reached as large as a 11 on Brandi James' (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) layup with eight seconds to go in the quarter, but a three-pointer from from just inside half court from Charity Miller as the period expired made the count 25-17.

Aided by 12 Mont Alto turnovers during the second quarter, the Lions pulled away, outscoring the visitors 26-9 during the stanza. A 14-3 surge capped by Crystal Miller's (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) bucket upped the advantage to 39-20 and back-to-back fast-break layups, helped by assists from Ginamarie McNamee (Aston, Pa./Interboro), by Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Ali Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) sent Brandywine into the half ahead 51-26.

The Lions did not relent during the final half, extending the margin to 78-30 through three quarters as D'Ambrosio and Kendra Stanford (Philadelphia, Pa./William Bodine) combined for 11 points during the period. Brandywine's lead swelled to its largest mark with 5:13 to go in the game when Danielle Chattin's (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) layup made the score 80-35.

Eleven players got in the scoring column for Brandywine led by D'Ambrosio's 13-point performance. Miller added 12 points, while James and Stanford both netted 11. Stanford also collected six rebounds and four steals, while Miller also grabbed four thefts. Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) posted a team-best five swipes.

The Lions received 37 points from their reserves and recorded 42 points off 36 Mont Alto turnovers. Brandywine limited Mont Alto to 24 percent shooting, while making 42 percent of its shots from the field and 12-of-14 at the free throw stripe.

Brandywine (16-5, 10-0 PSUAC) returns to its home court Friday night when it hosts Penn State Hazleton at 6:00 pm.
