Brandywine Increases Winning Streak To Six With Lopsided Win At Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team will head into the holiday break with a six-game winning streak after the Lions downed Penn State Schuylkill 69-18 on the road Saturday afternoon.

Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) scored a game-high 15 points, while Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) contributed 10 points and eight rebounds. Chantel Hatton (Philadelphia, Pa./Chester), Madison Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) all netted nine points.

Ally Giannakarios (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) pulled down a game-high 11 boards, while Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) handed out a game-best six assists and grabbed five rebounds for Brandywine, which held a 47-21 edge on the boards.

Brandywine shot 47 percent from the field and limited Schuylkill to 14 percent shooting, including a 3-of-23 mark beyond the arc. The Lions also forced 18 turnovers.

James and Velez combined to score the first eight points of the game as Brandywine ran out to an early eight-point lead. A jumper by Coacher increased the margin to 16-2 with 1:47 to go in the opening quarter before Schuylkill scored the final three points of the period to get within 11.

Brandywine blanked the hosts during the second quarter, holding Schuylkill without a point on 14 field goal attempts, as the Lions swelled the lead to 36-5 at intermission.

Brandywine never looked back during the second half, outscoring Schuylkill 36-13 over the last 20 minutes to provide the final margin.

The Lions (7-4, 5-0 PSUAC) is idle until January 2 when they host Bryn Athyn at 7:00 pm.
