Brandywine Fends Off Wilkes-Barre; Evens PSUAC Record At 2-2

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Two free throws from Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) with two seconds to play sealed a 48-44 victory for the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team as the Lions evened their conference record at 2-2 by downing Penn State Wilkes-Barre Tuesday night.

Brandywine led 43-33 with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter following Sierra Diawara's (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) pair of free throws, but was held scoreless for the next 3:35 as Wilkes-Barre closed within three. Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) sank a free throw with 35 seconds to play to end the scoring drought and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added two more points from the free throw line 16 seconds later to bring Brandywine's lead to 46-40.

Judea Alexander sank a putback with sevens seconds on the clock and the hosts pulled within two after a Brandywine turnover led to another basket; however, Allen knocked down two shots from the free throw line with two seconds to play to secure the win.

Floyd netted a team-high 14 points and collected eight rebounds and three steals, while Diawara produced 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) chipped in nine points and a team-best 12 boards. Michael tallied 10 rebounds and Allen totaled seven points, eight rebounds and four assists.

A triple from Diawara and basket from Hope Coacher (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) put Brandywine on top 14-9 after one quarter and the Lions brought the same five-point lead into the halftime break at 26-21. 

The hosts got as close as three points down during the third quarter and trailed by five points with 4:56 remaining in the fourth quarter. Floyd's jumper started a run of five-straight points in a 56-second span that swelled Brandywine's lead to its largest of the night at 43-33.

Brandywine knocked down 14 of its 15 free throw attempts and held a 47-40 edge on the boards, while committing just nine turnovers.

Brandywine (5-3, 2-2 PSUAC) returns to its home court for a Saturday matchup with Penn State Lehigh Valley at 3:00 PM.
