Floyd Leads Big Second Half For Brandywine In 67-47 Triumph

MEDIA, Pa. -- Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) scored 23 of her career-high 30 points in the second half as the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team ended a five-game skid with a 67-47 victory over Penn State Scranton on Thursday night.

Brandywine held just a three-point edge when Floyd caught fire in the third quarter, scoring 14-straight Lion points in a span of 1:52. She knocked down all five of her field goal attempts, including a pair of three-pointers, and two free throws to swell the Brandywine lead to 41-27 at the 6:34 mark.

Floyd added to her third quarter count with another triple, handing Brandywine's its largest lead of the period at 45-27 two minutes later.

The Lions led by 16 points after 30 minutes and after allowing Scranton to pull within 12, Floyd buried her fifth of six three-pointers on the night to end the visitors' comeback bid early in the final stanza.

The game was close early as midway through the opening period, Cheyenne Rivas (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) sank a layup and knocked down a three-pointer to extend Brandywine's lead to six.

The Lions owned the same six-point lead after one quarter and grew the margin to double figures with 90 seconds remaining in the half following a free throw from Rivas and baskets by Floyd and Kaitlyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby); however, Scranton netted the final four points of the half, including a fast-break layup just before the buzzer to get within 25-19 at intermission.

Floyd finished with a career-best 30 points on 11-of-24 shooting, while also posting 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals.

Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) added 12 points and seven boards, while Amelia Brooks (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) pulled in a team-high 11 rebounds.

Brandywine shot 35 percent from the field and limited Scranton to 27 percent shooting. The Lions allowed the visitors to make just 1-of-17 three-point attempts and forced 25 turnovers.

Brandywine (7-10, 4-4 PSUAC) travels to western Pennsylvania Sunday for a 3:00 PM matchup at Penn State Fayette.
