Bio
Larry Johnson completed his 18th season as Penn State Brandywine women's basketball coach in 2023-24.
During his nearly two decades on the Brandywine bench, Johnson has helped the Lions reach new heights, guiding the team to the first five USCAA Tournament berths in program history and its first-ever national tournament victory during the 2009-10 season. The Lions claimed their third USCAA Tournament triumph in 2017-18 after winning the fourth PSUAC championship during Johnson's tenure, while also matching a single-season, program record with 22 wins. Johnson made department history in 2024, becoming Brandywine's first-ever coach to earn 300 victories on Feb. 14 with a 78-67 win at Penn State Schuylkill.
A six-time conference coach of the year, Johnson has built Brandywine into a perennial contender in the PSUAC as his teams claimed the conference’s South Division title nine times and the East Division in 2019-20 during his tenure, while reaching the league championship game eight times, including PSUAC crowns in 2017-18, 2016-17, 2010-11 and 2006-07.
A winner of 303 games during his career, Johnson’s student-athletes have also produced in the classroom, earning 26 USCAA National Academic awards. At least one member of Johnson's teams have received USCAA National Academic Team recognition each season since during the campus' USCAA era from 2008-24.
Johnson resides in Media, Pa., with his wife, Jessica, and Brandywine’s No. 1 fans, daughter, Makayla, and son, Larry Jr.
