Second-Half Surge Lifts Brandywine To Fourth-Straight Win

MONACA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine scored six times during the second half and ran away with a 7-1 Penn State University Athletic Conference women's soccer victory at Penn State Beaver on Saturday.

Brandywine (5-1, 4-0 PSUAC) outshot Beaver 11-6 during the opening 45 minutes, but managed to put just one shot past Beaver goalkeeper Brittany Zahn, a score off the foot of Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) at the 8:00 mark.

However, the flood gates would open for the offense in the second half as Segich got the onslaught started in the 50th minute with her second goal of the contest.

Ten minutes later, Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank) found the back of the net to make the score 3-0. Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) followed with a score just 58 seconds after Weir.

Jessica Spina put Beaver on the board in the 67th minute, but Segich answered with her third goal of the game at the 68:35 mark to complete her first career hat trick.

Danielle Chattin (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) added her third goal of the season, while Weir capped the scoring in the 88th minute for her second multi-goal performance of the fall.

Segich now has six goals in four career games against Beaver, while Banks extended her goal scoring streak to six games to begin her career and added a pair of assists. She is the leading scorer in the league with 15 goals and six assists for 36 points.

Goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) picked up her fifth win of the season after stopping five-of-six shots. Bush, who had posted three consecutive shutouts, saw her scoreless streak come to an end at 349:57, a new program record.

Brandywine, which has outscored four conference opponents 33-1, begins a three-game homestand on Thursday against Penn State Hazleton at 4:00 pm.
