Brandywine Knocks Off NCAA Division II Lincoln 5-1

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team earned a 5-1 home triumph over Lincoln (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon as the Lions claimed their first-ever victory over a NCAA Division II opponent.

With the victory, the Lions remained unbeaten this season, improving their record to 3-0-1 with all four games coming against NCAA member foes. Brandywine also extended its regular-season unbeaten streak to 15 matches (14-0-1), while winning its 12th-straight game on home turf dating back to 2015.

The victory against a NCAA Division II opponent is the second overall for the Brandywine athletic department as the Lions women's tennis team defeated Cheyney on Apr. 15, 2016 by a score of 8-1.

Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center), this week's PSUAC Player of the Week, moved in to a tie for the conference's goal scoring lead with six after depositing two scores. Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional), Noelle Conforti (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) and Christina Kane (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) all netted goals during the second half to help Brandywine run away from Lincoln.

In goal, Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional), who was named PSUAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday, stopped seven of the eight shots she faced to earn her third victory of the fall.

Banks wasted no time in scoring Brandywine's first goal, scoring 4:14 into the game off a touch pass from Emily Jefferson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXII Regional).

The game would remain with a 1-0 score until early in the second half when Banks and Weir scored less than three minutes apart to push the Brandywine lead to three.

After Lincoln pulled within two goals, Conforti answered for Brandywine during the 73rd minute, tapping in a crossing feed near the goal line from Averie Florschutz (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett). Kane's third goal of the season rounded out the scoring with under four minutes to play in regulation.

Brandywine travels to Pittsburgh Saturday to open conference play at Penn State Beaver at 2:00 pm.
