Kane Lifts Brandywine In Double Overtime

MEDIA, Pa. -- Christina Kane (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) scored the game-winning goal with under five minutes to play in the second overtime session, helping the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team to a 3-2 triumph over Penn State Schuylkill on Monday evening.

Kane deposited the goal at the 105:38 mark of the match on Brandywine's 20th shot on goal, lifting a shot over Schuylkill goalkeeper Megan Boyer after receiving a feed from Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center).

With the victory, Brandywine improved to 9-0-1 overall this fall, while finishing out conference play with a perfect 6-0 record. The Lions have won the PSUAC regular season outright in all three seasons as a varsity team and will play for the conference championship in State College on Nov. 1.

Despite Brandywine holding a lopsided 42-4 edge in shot attempts, the visitors managed to keep the game within striking distance as Boyer stopped 17 shots in net. Schuylkill netted the match's first goal and then tied the game with under seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Brandywine evened the match at 1-1 during the 24th minute as Samantha Bearden (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) followed her own shot and sent the rebound into the back of the net. Less than two minutes later, Brandywine took the lead on Emily Jefferson's (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) goal, which also was a rebound, after a shot by Banks had hit the post.

Kane's goal came on Brandywine's eighth shot during overtime. The Lions also recorded 17 shots during each half, hitting the post and the crossbar twice, while attempting all 11 of the match's corner kicks. Brandywine goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made one save to earn her ninth victory.

Brandywine closes out the regular season on Oct. 24 with a trip to Misericordia for a 3:00 pm match.
