Brandywine Secures Second-Straight PSUAC Women’s Soccer Title

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, the top-seeded Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team staked its claim as the top team in Penn State University Athletic Conference women's soccer, winning the league championship over second-seeded Penn State Schuylkill by a 5-0 score on Wednesday night.

Brandywine won its 19-straight match against PSUAC competition and posted its 10 victory overall this season in dominant fashion. The Lions controlled possession of the ball for nearly the entire match and recorded 21 of the game's 23 shots on goal.

Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) scored twice to up her PSUAC-leading goal total to 19, while Noelle Conforti (Freehold, N.J./Colts Neck) and Christina Kane (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) each tallied a goal and an assist. Danielle Chattin (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) added a score for Brandywine.

Banks and Chattin combined to give the Lions a 2-0 lead at halftime as Banks netted the game's opening goal in the 23^rd minute and Chattin tapped home Conforti's free kick with under four minutes to play before the break.

Brandywine continued to pour it on in the second half, upping its lead to 3-0 on Kane's goal just 49 seconds into the final stanza.

Banks added her second tally during the 66^th minute off a crossing feed from Emily Jefferson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional), while Conforti capped off the scoring with under two minutes remaining.

Brandywine goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) stopped both shots she faced to up her record to 10-1-1 this fall. Alyssa Gerber made 21 stops in a losing cause for Schuylkill.

Brandywine, which had already earned a bid to the USCAA Tournament, will head to Virginia Beach, Va., for the national tournament next week. Seeded ninth, the Lions will face Albany College of Pharmacy and Johnson & Wales (N.C.) in pool play.
