Banks, Segich Earn Top Honors; Seven Land All-PSUAC Women’s Soccer Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Year for the third consecutive season, while senior Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) was tabbed as the conference's top defender as the PSUAC released its all-conference teams and end-of-year awards earlier this week.

Banks and Segich both claimed First Team All-PSUAC laurels, while goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) and midfielders Averie Florschutz (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett), Emily Jefferson (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional), Amanda Roy (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) and Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank) were selected all-conference honorable mention.

Banks, now a three-time first team selection in addition to being a three-time player of the year, has led the PSUAC in scoring during all three years of her career at Brandywine. This fall, she delivered 24 goals, 11 more than her closester competitor, and 55 total points. She also added seven assists, which ranked as the second-highest total in the conference.

In 13 matches, Banks netted at least three goals five times, including a hat trick during Brandywine's championship victory over Hazleton on Wednesday. She registered at least one point in all eight PSUAC matches and 11-of-13 matches overall.

Through 43 games in her career, Banks owns 74 goals and 20 assists for 168 total points.

Segich, a starter in all 13 matches, led the Brandywine defense that surrendered only three goals to PSUAC teams this fall, while posting six shutouts. The Lions allowed their eight PSUAC opponents to register just 24 shots on goal. In addition, Segich, a four-time all-PSUAC standout, contributed four goals and three assists, all against conference foes, offensively.

Bush, who earned her second all-conference award, topped the conference with nine wins, three shutouts and a 2.12 goals against average. Bush posted three of her shutouts and combined for one more in seven PSUAC matches. A starter in 12 games, Bush tied for second in the league with a .727 save percentage and stopped 64 shots overall.

Bush also earned the conference's John Fritz Sportsmanship Award. Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season.

Florschutz ranked third on the team and seventh in the conference with 16 total points in 13 matches. She netted seven goals, scoring twice in the championship match, and added two assists. Nearly all of her scoring came in PSUAC games as Florschutz produced six goals in those matches.

Jefferson added to her goal total Wednesday night, scoring two times, to give her 10 tallies on the season. She ranks second on the team and fourth in the league in goals, while finishing in a tie for fourth with 21 points. Four times this fall Jefferson registered two-goal games with all of those coming against PSUAC opponents.

Roy started 12 matches and played in all 13 overall for the Lions. She netted a pair of goals, scoring in both games against Penn State Lehigh Valley. In three seasons at Brandywine, Roy owns five goals and one assist.

Weir contributed three goals and four assists, while earning her third all-conference selection in as many years. Appearing in 12 matches with 11 starts, Weir tied for sixth in the conference in assists and 16th in points, while be stationed as a defender for most of the year.

Brandywine (12-4) will be the No. 6 seed when it makes its third-straight trip to the USCAA Tournament next week. The Lions face Albany College of Pharmacy and NHTI in pool play beginning Friday, Nov. 9.
