Brandywine Downed 6-3 By New Jersey City

MEDIA, Pa. -- New Jersey City scored five times during the first half and defeated the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team in a high-scoring affair, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon.

The Gothic Knights produced three goals in less than two minutes to build a 3-0 edge and added two more scores before the break to establish a 5-2 edge.

Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) provided all of the scoring for the Lions, who dropped to 0-5. Banks netted a pair of first-half goals off Mariah Pierce's (Philadelphia, Pa./Kensington Health Sciences Academy) free kicks, first netting a goal 35 seconds following the Gothic Knights' third tally and then adding a second score to make the score 4-2 at the 35:22 mark.

Banks tallied an unassisted goal in the second half to cap the scoring for both teams.

Both teams had plenty of scoring chances, combining for 34 shots. Brandywine put 10 of its 19 shots on goal, but NJCU netminder Cidney Lee-Sam made seven stops. Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) collected a pair of saves for Brandywine.

Brandywine hits the road Tuesday for a 4:00 pm matchup at Washington Adventist.
