Banks Nets Overtime Winner In 3-2 Triumph At Hazleton

HAZLETON, Pa. -- Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) netted the game-winning goal in overtime as the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team survived a stiff test from Penn State Hazleton Wednesday night, winning 3-2.

Banks, who now has 104 goals during the last four seasons, registered the first overtime goal of her career. She needed just 37 seconds in overtime to find the back of the net.

The victory extended Brandywine's conference winning streak to 31-straight matches. Two of those victories have come in overtime, including Wednesday night. The Lions are now 3-0 in the PSUAC this fall and own the inside track to the No. 1 seed in the PSUAC Tournament with three regular-season matches remaining.

Brandywine looked to have the game in hand during regulation after Averie Florschutz (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) scored the go-ahead goal at the 83:13 mark off a feed from Meltem Ozdemir (Carney's Point, N.J./St. Mark's); however, 2:21 later Hazleton found the equalizer as Emma Wyllie netted her second goal of the game to knot the score and send the match to overtime.

Despite being outshot 17-8 during the second half, Hazleton scored twice during the final 45 minutes after Brandywine took a 1-0 edge into intermission. Ozdemir scored her first goal of the season during the 20th minute to give the Lions a one-goal lead.

Brandywine doubled up Hazleton in shots, holding a 28-14 edge. Goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional), who was named PSUAC Goalkeeper of the Week earlier Wednesday, recorded six saves to earn her fifth win of the year. Roxxy Dacosta stopped 11 shots for Hazleton.

Brandywine (5-7, 3-0 PSUAC) is back at home Saturday to face Penn State Beaver beginning at 1:00 pm.
