Brandywine Rolls Into PSUAC Championship Match With 6-1 Victory

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Top-seeded Penn State Brandywine scored early and often to secure a 6-1 Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament semifinal triumph over No. 4 Penn State Scranton on Saturday night.

Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) combined for four goals and three assists during the opening half as Brandywine opened up a 5-0 edge.

Weir got the scoring started at the 2:45 mark, scoring on a long blast from just outside the box before Banks doubled the margin on a free kick less than three minutes later. Weir assisted on Banks' second goal of the half midway through the period and then tallied her second goal off a feed from Banks.

Nicole Zuppo (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) supplied the Lions' fifth goal, which was assisted by Weir, at the 43:19 mark.

Banks, the PSUAC Player of the Year, scored her third goal of the match late in the second half to account for the final Brandywine score.

The would be all the offense the Lions needed to reach the title game for the fifth-straight year. Brandywine will face No. 3 Penn State Hazleton at 4:00 pm in State College on Wednesday. The Lions own a 3-2, overtime victory at Hazleton earlier this season.

Brandywine goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) made three stops in nearly 72 scoreless minutes in net to earn her eighth win. Among those saves was a stop of a Scranton penalty kick in the second half.

The Lions outshot Scranton 41-9 and put 21 of those attempts on target, while accumulating 10 of the match's 11 corner kicks.
