Banks Named National Player Of The Year; Four Earn All-American Awards

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Senior Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) became the first United States Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year in Penn State Brandywine history as she was tabbed as the top player in Division II women's soccer last week. Banks also earned her fourth USCAA First Team All-American award, while classmates Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) and Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) were tabbed as second team all-Americans and junior Averie Florschutz (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) was named all-American honorable mention.

Banks, also the first-ever four-time first team all-American in Brandywine history, broke her own single-season school records with 40 goals and 84 total points this fall. Her 40 goals were 16 greater than her next closest competitor in the USCAA, while her point total was 33 points higher than Christine McLaughlin of Christendom, who finished second nationally in scoring. She totaled more goals this season than 19 of the 27 USCAA Division II women's soccer teams.

Banks scored in 13-straight games from Sept. 14 – Oct. 30, tallying multi-goal efforts in 11 of those matches. She produced 10 matches of at least three goals, including a hat trick in the PSUAC championship game when she scored the game-winning goal in overtime, and twice scored five goals in a match.

During her decorated four-year career, Banks averaged nearly two goals per game, scoring 119 times in 64 matches. She was held out of the scoring column just 14 times during the last four years. In 44 matches against USCAA opponents, Banks scored goals in 36 matches. She concluded her career with 262 points after adding 24 assists.

Bush is now a two-time all-American after earning second team laurels as a freshman. She ranked second among USCAA goalkeepers with nine victories and tallied two shutouts, while combining on two more. During 18 matches this fall, Bush stopped 100 shots, including tying the single-game team record with 19 stops against Rowan in the season opener. She produced a double-figure save total four times overall.

Bush completed her four-year career with a record of 41-15-1, while producing 303 saves and 18 shutouts. She was a three-time all-PSUAC goalkeeper.

Weir, now a two-time all-American, was the Lions' top defender. She aided the Brandywine backline in recording four shutouts, while chipping in with two goals and a team-best five assists. Six of her nine points came during a two-goal, two-assist performance in a win over Penn State Scranton in October.

A four-time all-conference standout, Weir played in 62 matches during her four-year career, finishing with 19 goals and 23 assists for 61 total points.

Florschutz matched Weir for the team lead with five assists from her midfield position. She added two goals, tallying nine points overall. Florschutz tallied assists in four-straight matches from Sept. 21 – Oct. 2, ranking 15th overall in the USCAA in helpers.

Florschutz has played in 48 matches during the last three seasons, registering 12 goals and 10 assists.
